A Usability Approach to Accessible Flash (19:00 - 20:00) - Niqui Merret
There may be hundreds of pages worth of standards and guidelines that are available to developers but most of them ignore or shun Flash. This leaves Flash developers with no information, no guides and no goal to work towards. Even if a Flash developer has the best interests of the users at heart, it can be difficult to work towards non-existent guidelines when you have no real concept of the consequences of your actions.
This session will focus on how different users interact with Flash by demonstrating a selection of both accessible and inaccessible Flash sites. Each site will illustrate challenges experienced by different types of users. Niqui will discuss in detail the barriers that each site poses and will make suggestions on how the issues can be overcome.

Play: Rediscovering Fun ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Aral Balkan
Hack it! Mash it up… Mix your JSON with your XML with your Flash Remoting. Suck up that API. Put it on your phone. Throw it on your Wii. Break it. Fix it. Play! Have fun!
Aral Balkan loosens his collar and goes barefoot to share his recent experiences in rediscovering the joys of Flash. Expect APIs, some spaghetti code and maybe even a few devices.

Prizes for the free raffle
1 hardback copy of Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices signed by Mr Leggett himself.
1 copy of Advanced Flash Interface Design

Smoke, Fire and Water - Creating Realistic Procedural Bitmap Effects (19:00 - 20:00) - Alias Cummins
This talk will cover the basics of using various bitmap effects and mathematical techniques to create realistic animated textures and effects, which mimic the natural world, particularly smoke, fire and liquids. It is possible to create impressive looking simulations of all of these things, provided you have patience, a decent understanding of the theory, and a good eye. We’ll work through the basics of creating smoke, fire and water effects using only AS2 and Flash 8.

Apollo: The unofficial WTF ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Dan Thomas
You’d have to be coming out from under a pretty big rock to have not heard anything of Apollo the new “cross platfrom runtime from Adobe”. However, you would be forgiven for not having had the chance to piece all of the press releases and blog posts together. This session will be a blaggers guide to understanding what Apollo is, where it fits into the Flash Platform and why you should give a damn. There has also been a lot of FUD over the release of Apollo and what it is going to be/not be which Dan aims to address during this presentation.
Exclusion Clause: Dan is in no way affiliated with Adobe but has done his homework and has given Apollo alot of attention over the past few months. If you’ve been too busy doing real work to find out what is going on this should get you up to speed.

Prizes for the free raffle
2 hardback copies of Foundation Flash Applications for Mobile Devices signed by Mr Leggett himself.

Flash for Linux (19:00 - 20:00) - Adam Robertson
With Adobe’s recent release of Flash Player 9 for Linux and the proliferation of OS flash tools, Linux is rapidly becoming a viable environment for developing real world Flash content. And unless you’ve been living under a rock recently you’ve almost certainly heard of Ubuntu, the current poster child of Linux distributions, and arguably the first Linux distribution to provide a truly usable desktop OS.
In this session we’ll take a closer look at Ubuntu, and cover turning a shiny fresh install into a full featured Flash 8 developement environment using (mostly) Open Source tools including Eclipse, MTASC, ASDT/FDT & SWFMill.

Full Screen Flash ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Stefan Richter
In the last released version of the Flash Player a new Full Screen feature was introduced in the Flash Player. Primarily for video use, we’ll take a look at how to implement it and some examples.

With some luck we’ll also have an exclusive LFPUbuntu DVD for everyone.

Optimising Visual Interfaces for the Human Brain (19:00 - 20:00) - Rob Bateman
Computers have always used images as the primary way of communicating information to us. When two way communication is required, a visual interface is used - a collection of virtual icons and buttons on a screen that we can interact with. Today, ease of use is an important aspect of web design, and can make or break a website. This presentation concentrates on how understanding a few of the pre-programmed behaviours of our vision can help when tackling ease of use issues, and goes some way to explaining why some interfaces are considered ‘intuative’, and others just plain ‘annoying’.

Introduction to Flex 2.0 for Flash Developers (20:15 - 21:15) - Tink
Flex 2.0 is still new to a lot of Flash developers who don’t know how to approach it and get started. If your one of these people then this is your chance to get to grips with Flex from the beginning.
From the starting point ‘What is Flex 2.0?”, we’ll progress to what I consider are some of the most important features, to get you up and running and building your own components and applications.

Topics will focus on common pitfalls and best practices, as this is where Flash Lite development really differs from its desktop counterpart and where most developers get hung up. The aim is to allow fast learners to take away skills that they can apply to Flash Lite development as well as to show inspirational examples of what is possible. The session will also cover the creation of a real time multiplayer game, utilizing the newest Flash Lite features.
