Beyond Flash: Computational Design with Processing (19:00 - 20:00) - Karsten Schmidt
This talk will be focusing on the role of code as general design language & open source tool making to enable more creative freedom of expression as well as give us access to different approaches for solving design issues. We will be looking at numerous work examples and uncover the processes behind. Most of the work is created in Processing but the conceptual side equally applies for Flash users.

Creating T-shirts with Flash ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Zoltan Csaki
Outlining the process behind the ‘Muslim Jesus’ t-shirt, Zoltan will talk about using Flash in a non-traditional way as well as the personal project that inspired the illustration in the first place.

An Introduction to AS3: The First 5 Things You’ll Want to do With ActionScript 3 (19:00 - 20:00) - Jolyon Russ
So you’ve heard everyone talking about it, seen how much you can get paid to write it, but don’t know where to start. This will be a an introduction to AS3, it will not cover complex things like PV3D or Design Patterns, instead it will focus on 5 common tasks all flash developers need to do. By de-mystifying these simple tasks it will hopefully show that the jump to AS3 really isn’t that bad after all.

PV3D Effects for Flex ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Tink
Effects in Flex are simple to apply and if used correctly enhance the UI. This session will show you how to apply and build 3D effects for Flex using Papervision3D.

Cairngorm: Making a Molehill out of a Mountain (19:00 - 20:00) - Neil Webb
If you intend to build enterprise-level Flex applications and work with multiple developers, you will want to keep your code base well structured, promote code reuse and avoid the risk of different developers solving the same problems in different ways - enter Cairngorm.
In this session Neil will walk you through the Cairngorm architectural framework, giving an explanation of what it is, when you may wish to use it and what you need to know in order to get up and running.

Can Code, Will Code: Flex Application Development in 60 Minutes ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Mike Jones
Has he gone mad I hear you say. He did say 60 minutes. Yes 60 minutes to develop an application (not a widget). Obviously in the true style of Blue Peter there will be a bit of prep and code for the talk will be available for download before hand.
However the point here is not to stand and lecture on how you can build applications in Flex 2, but to get you to do it as well. So if you have a laptop, a copy of Flex Builder 2 (or the beta of Flex Builder 3) and want to join in this is for you. If you don’t then don’t worry, participation is not mandatory.
What are we going to make… Well let’s keep that a surprise.

Prizes for the free raffle
1 complimentary pass to dconstruct donated by Adobe.
1 copy of The Essential Guide to Flex 2 with ActionScript 3.0 donated by friends of ED.

FWii Style ( 19:00 - 20:00 ) - Adam Robertson
Forget your PS3’s and 360’s, the Wii is officially the coolest console ever, all thanks to its innovative Wiimote controller. And now you can get in on the motion sensing goodness using Flash.
In this session we’ll take a quick look inside the Wiimote to learn a bit about how it works, then discover how you can use it to control your own Flash projects, both through the official Wii browser (with the Wiicade API) and on your desktop (with FWiidom & WiiFlash). Much arm waving guaranteed.

Make Things Physical (20:15 - 21:15) - Leif Lovgreen
An introduction to physical interaction. Adobe Flash, the Make Controller Kit from MakingThings and a handful of analogue sensors. This session covers the basics of getting started with analogue input as an interface to Flash.
Expect strange things like ice cubes, food, flashlights and a boxing ball to be natural ingredients in this session.

Physics for Flash Games (19:00 - 20:00) - Richard Lord
Physics - some games need it, others just want it. There are even some user interfaces muscling in on the action. So how do we do it?
Starting with the basics and advancing rapidly, this session explains how to make robust, flexible and reusable physics models in Actionscript. Covering velocity, acceleration, gravity, drag, friction, collisions, integrators, and more there will be code, there will be pictures, there will be examples, and there will be just enough mathematics to get the job done.

Flash CS3: Whats New ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Tink

Beans in Orbit (19:00 - 20:00) - Emmanuel Okyere
Java provides the ability to ship embedded, admin-free, web servers and databases. Apollo provides, arguably, the easiest rich multimedia desktop technology to code to. Learn how you can leverage both technologies together with your web development experience, to create useful desktop experiences.

(Best) Practice Makes Perfect ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Agency Republic
We work in a field where every day there are a million decisions, from minor amends to major creative and structural changes made to your project at any one time. As creatives, conceptors, IAs, and developers, we constantly have to field a barrage of requests from clients, account handlers and project managers, that can often present major obstacles throughout a production cycle. It’s only by the practice of making (and learning from our) mistakes that we have been able to grow and evolve as a company and develop our product to the point where we have gained a good reputation for the innovative and aspirational work that we try (and do).
But with so much R&D happening on a daily basis, it makes accurate planning of an entire project a logistical nightmare. At Agency Republic we are trying to embrace those nightmares and turn them into production lessons we can all learn from. In creating opportunities from the challenges that we face through exploration/experimentation, we find we can produce some of the best work that we’ve ever done.

Sometimes its OK to not know how to do something.
Sometimes it makes for something much, much more interesting…

A Usability Approach to Accessible Flash (19:00 - 20:00) - Niqui Merret
There may be hundreds of pages worth of standards and guidelines that are available to developers but most of them ignore or shun Flash. This leaves Flash developers with no information, no guides and no goal to work towards. Even if a Flash developer has the best interests of the users at heart, it can be difficult to work towards non-existent guidelines when you have no real concept of the consequences of your actions.
This session will focus on how different users interact with Flash by demonstrating a selection of both accessible and inaccessible Flash sites. Each site will illustrate challenges experienced by different types of users. Niqui will discuss in detail the barriers that each site poses and will make suggestions on how the issues can be overcome.

Play: Rediscovering Fun ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Aral Balkan
Hack it! Mash it up… Mix your JSON with your XML with your Flash Remoting. Suck up that API. Put it on your phone. Throw it on your Wii. Break it. Fix it. Play! Have fun!
Aral Balkan loosens his collar and goes barefoot to share his recent experiences in rediscovering the joys of Flash. Expect APIs, some spaghetti code and maybe even a few devices.

Smoke, Fire and Water - Creating Realistic Procedural Bitmap Effects (19:00 - 20:00) - Alias Cummins
This talk will cover the basics of using various bitmap effects and mathematical techniques to create realistic animated textures and effects, which mimic the natural world, particularly smoke, fire and liquids. It is possible to create impressive looking simulations of all of these things, provided you have patience, a decent understanding of the theory, and a good eye. We’ll work through the basics of creating smoke, fire and water effects using only AS2 and Flash 8.

Apollo: The unofficial WTF ( 20:15 - 21:15 ) - Dan Thomas
You’d have to be coming out from under a pretty big rock to have not heard anything of Apollo the new “cross platfrom runtime from Adobe”. However, you would be forgiven for not having had the chance to piece all of the press releases and blog posts together. This session will be a blaggers guide to understanding what Apollo is, where it fits into the Flash Platform and why you should give a damn. There has also been a lot of FUD over the release of Apollo and what it is going to be/not be which Dan aims to address during this presentation.
Exclusion Clause: Dan is in no way affiliated with Adobe but has done his homework and has given Apollo alot of attention over the past few months. If you’ve been too busy doing real work to find out what is going on this should get you up to speed.
