Red5: Crossing the Streams (19:00 – 20:00) – Trevor Burton
Red5 is an open-source streaming media server written in Java… but that’s just the beginning. Since the project began as an open-source implementation of the RTMP protocol it’s become a solid product in its own right. Despite not yet having acheived a 1.0 release it’s already used in production software and is suprisingly easy for Flash developers to get to grips with.
In this session Trevor Burton will take you on a whirlwind tour of Red5. You’ll learn how to set up for working with Red5 in Eclipse and create an application without writing a single line of Java. Then you’ll see some of the applications you can create with this awesome piece of software; multi-player applications, neural networks and voice recognition to name just a few. There’s also a glimpse of what’s coming soon in Red5.
Currently many Flash Developers are learning to work with other languages and platforms so you’ll also see how you can use Red5 outside of Flash with Unity3D and the iPhone and even how you can go beyond the computer itself.
An Introduction to Augmented Reality in Flash (20:15 – 21:15) – James Alliban
Augmented Reality has gained a great deal of attention recently due to the fact that it is now available in the Flash player due to the FLARToolkit library.
In this session James will provide a full introduction to building FLAR applications. There will be several demos of his own work with a discussion of his experiences and self promotion. There will also be a live coding session which will involve technologies such as Papervision 2.0, FLARManager, Blender and the FP10 native 3D capabilities.
