Smoke, Fire and Water – Creating Realistic Procedural Bitmap Effects (19:00 – 20:00) – Alias Cummins
This talk will cover the basics of using various bitmap effects and mathematical techniques to create realistic animated textures and effects, which mimic the natural world, particularly smoke, fire and liquids. It is possible to create impressive looking simulations of all of these things, provided you have patience, a decent understanding of the theory, and a good eye. We’ll work through the basics of creating smoke, fire and water effects using only AS2 and Flash 8.
Apollo: The unofficial WTF ( 20:15 – 21:15 ) – Dan Thomas
You’d have to be coming out from under a pretty big rock to have not heard anything of Apollo the new “cross platfrom runtime from Adobe”. However, you would be forgiven for not having had the chance to piece all of the press releases and blog posts together. This session will be a blaggers guide to understanding what Apollo is, where it fits into the Flash Platform and why you should give a damn. There has also been a lot of FUD over the release of Apollo and what it is going to be/not be which Dan aims to address during this presentation.
Exclusion Clause: Dan is in no way affiliated with Adobe but has done his homework and has given Apollo alot of attention over the past few months. If you’ve been too busy doing real work to find out what is going on this should get you up to speed.
