UML for AS3 (19:00 – 20:00) – Matthew Press
UML can be a powerful tool to help plan a project before you begin coding. But often developers see the time it takes as better spent on producing code.

Drawing on real-world experiences this session will demonstrate the existing tools (both commercial and open source) enabling you to integrate UML into your workflow. We’ll look at generating skeleton code from UML and generating UML diagrams from completed projects. Understand what you just wrote! And convince your clients it’s what you meant to do all along.

Mate Framework: The Pleasures & Pains (20:15 – 21:15) – Gilles Guillemin
Mate Framework is often touted as an easy to use, yet powerful MVC Framework. It is quite true, particularly when compared with other well-known Flex frameworks like Cairngorm or PureMVC. Still, simplicity doesn’t go without rules and Mate’s relative youth, along with its also relative lightness on the subject of documentation and up-to-date examples doesn’t always make the laborious programmer’s life as easy as advertised. So, for those who want to enjoy the delights of declarative tag-based MVC frameworks, the illumination of dependency injection, and possibly improve their social life by spending less time pulling their hair on Mate’s trickinesses (at least the ones I’ve experienced so far), well, this presentation might be for you then!
